David Roth sadly passed away on January 14, 2021 aged 68. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest coin magicians to have lived, and reshaped coin magic in the 1970’s and 1980’s. In addition to being a great performer, he was a superb teacher and many magicians today owe their proficiency with coins to Roth’s teachings. I had the privilege of seeing him lecture at the Blackpool Magic Convention (the world’s largest annual magic convention) and joining the other magicians in a well deserved standing ovation. He will be missed, but has helped build the foundations of coin magic for a new generation.
