In May 2021, Houdini’s Magic Bar in Broadstairs will have been open for five years. Having performed at the opening night, I hope to be performing on the 5 th anniversary. I have already made my pitch to Sam Watson, the owner. For those not familiar with Houdini’s, each night there is a professional magician performing. I perform walk about magic at the tables or to the standing patrons. In addition, I perform several 20-30 minute formal shows each night which gives me the use of a table. Using a table may not sound like a big deal, but it permits me to perform a variety of magic that cannot be done walk around, such as the cups and balls – perhaps the oldest and most classic of magic effects. Video cameras and microphones ensure that everyone gets to see and hear the formal performances clearly.
There is always an interesting atmosphere at Houdini’s, in no small part due to the fact that the patrons come specifically to see magic. It means that there is a wide range of ages which helps give it a quite unique feel. On top of that, the cocktails are great!
