Something I have noticed when creating magic effects is that once I have figured out the method required to achieve the effect, I look at it and think “Why did that take so long to figure out?” In hindsight, it looked obvious. I have noticed exactly the same thing in solving business problems. Despite a problem existing for ages, once a solution is found and explained, everyone thinks the solution is obvious. This is despite the fact that no one else had solved it earlier. The creative talent that actually solved the problem is then overlooked as people only see the now logicial solution and move on. Of course, in magic, we do not reveal our secrets. But in the business world, I’m afraid that the creative business problem solvers often do not get the true recognition they deserve – unless the organization has the correct incentive and reward systems in place.
Do creative people get the credit they deserve?
